Decree amending, adding and repealing several provisions of the Social Security Law regarding digital tools for procedures (IMSS Mailbox)

On June 7, 2024, a Decree was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation that amends several provisions of the Social Security Law regarding digital tools.

With this reform, the Mexican Social Security Institute, through the IMSS Mailbox, will be able to announce any act, requirement, or administrative resolution it issues in digital documents, and inform about aspects of interest. Individuals may submit promotions, requests, notices, or comply with the obligations and requirements of the Institute through digital documents, as well as make inquiries about their tax and administrative situation before the Institute.

The Decree also establishes that when individuals do not enable, provide erroneous data, do not register, or do not update their means of contact, the Institute will be able to notify them by means of official notices through the Mailbox.

The Mexican Social Security Institute will publish in the Official Gazette of the Federation, within 60 days, the procedures and services available in the IMSS Mailbox, as well as its general rules for its operation.

Employers must review compliance with social security and tax obligations derived from the modifications to the IMSS mailbox.
