On September 30 of this year, a Decree was issued changing the date of the federal work holiday for the swearing in of the new president.
The amendment modifies Section VII of Article 74 of the Federal Labor Law, updating the date of the mandatory federal work holiday celebrating the inauguration of the new federal president every six years on October 1. This amendment harmonizes the Fundamental Law and federal legislation, in accordance with the principle of constitutional supremacy.
The above is in view of the fact that on February 10th, 2014, a decree published in the Federal Official Gazette modified 31 articles of the Mexican Constitution that affect political-electoral matters, including the shortening of the transition period between presidential elections and the swearing-in of the new president, providing in Article 83 that the President Elect will start their six year term as president on October 1st. The previous reform entered into effect on December 1st, 2018, establishing October 1st as the new date for the official work holiday for the swearing in of the new President.
By means of this Decree, the right to citizen participation of workers is recognized.
